David Beckham back in shape!


Former captain David Beckham has been called to join the England squad for the first time since he played at the 2006 World Cup in Germany. Steve McClaren changed his mind and called Becks after he prevoius said that Real’s number 7 was not part of his future plans with the english national squad. Beckham, 32, is awaited to start Friday’s friendly game against Brazil followed by the Euro 2008 qualifier in Estonia.

Previous appearance
The Real Madrid midfielder, who will join the Los Angeles Galaxy of MLS next month, was overlooked for England’s previous nine games. The 32 year old star played the last of his 94 international matches in the World Cup quarterfinals against Portugal on July 1, watching from the sidelines with an injured leg as his team lost a penalty shootout.

England needs him
Beckham has had some top quality performances for Madrid as the club challenges FC Barcelona for the Spanish league title. He is set to play for Madrid on Saturday against Deportivo La Coruna. He recently got some extra credit from Fabio Capello his Real Madrid coach wich admitted making a mistake while dropping Becks out of the squad.
England, fourth in qualifying behind Croatia, Israel and Russia, is without the injured Gary Neville, Micah Richards, Ashley Cole, Andrew Johnson, Owen Hargreaves and Ben Foster. Wayne Rooney is suspended for the match against Estonia and has also been left out of the friendly against Brazil.

England’s full squad for the matcah against Brazil, on Friday June the 1st:

Midfielders: Beckham (Real Madrid), Gerrard (Liverpool), Jenas (Tottenham), J Cole (Chelsea), Lennon (Tottenham), Bentley (Blackburn), Carrick (Man Utd), Lampard (Chelsea), Downing (Middlesbrough), Dyer (Newcastle).

Forwards: Crouch (Liverpool), Owen (Newcastle), Smith (Man Utd), Defoe (Tottenham).
