The national teams of Austria and Switzerland, the two co-hosts of the Euro 2008, played yesterday a friendly game hosted at an altitude of exactly 3.545 meters. The match was played in the Alps and celebrated the one year countdown date left until the start of Euro 2008.
The two teams where formed by five players. The field was a synthetic pitch placed on the Jungfrau glacier. The Swiss players wore shirts with the number “20″ printed, while Austria had played with number “08″ on the back. The game lasted 10 minutes and had a crowd of 400 people, the most of them UEFA officials and the Swiss referee Urs Meier.

Inspired by Federer and Agassi
Martin Kallen, the chief organiser of Euro 2008, declared that the match was inspired by a tennis match.

“We got inspired by the tennis game between Roger Federer and Andre Agassi, who was played on the roof of a famous Dubai hotel and we decided to do the same. I am sure that FIFA won’t disagree with this friendly because the game did not last more than 10 minutes.”, said the official.
