| Mourinho becomes psychological again! |
Chelsea’s manager, Jose Mourinho, has recently offered an interview about the media pressure sent on the Stamford Bridge team. Here is his interview for the Chelsea magazine:
‘People ask Chelsea, ‘Last season you won two trophies; why did you not win four?’ But not many journalists ask Rafael Benitez and Arsene Wenger, ‘Why zero?’ And not many people ask Manchester United, ‘Why only the Premiership?’
‘Is it about money? If it is, I hope that next season the media put pressure on the big spenders because the big spenders for sure will not be Chelsea.
‘We have the experience of the small details making the big difference,’ the Portuguese added.
‘It is difficult to always have those details on your side and so it is very difficult to win every competition.’
‘The spenders will be Liverpool, Manchester United, Tottenham and maybe Arsenal. I don’t know, but it won’t be Chelsea for sure. So maybe at the beginning of next season they will say that Chelsea are not the favourites any more because the club did not spend so much money.’
My Comment
Well once again Mourinho seems to be frustrated by the press. He did not understand why the media laid some big pressure on Chelsea’s shoulder in the last season and other clubs where not treated the same way. He tries to find an explanation in the clubs invested money but seems a bit surprised.
When a club spends a huge amount of money three summers in a row and brings top players with top price money, in this case I would be expecting for sure some performance from that club. Chelsea spent in the last three years more money on new players than a regular club does in ten and the portuguese manager seems frustrated because of having to deal with pressure.
From what I know manager Mourinho is very sharp minded and sarcastic with the journalists. He should be honoured that he media had seen Chelsea favourite for each trophy they started for. It is a huge respect to be considered a real favourite in a competition, and yes the status of the biggest spenders on the football players market implies such a pressure.
Chelsea did not perform bad at all, with winning two consecutive Premiership titles the FA and the Carling Cup. There is a single black spot on Mourinho’s Chelsea career which is called the Uefa Champions League. Mourinho has had three attempts with Chelsea on it and failed every time, will it be a success the fourth time? Only time will tell, and now Mourinho looks to be a better favourite just because the pressure won’t be on his side, or just because he is not considered a favourite anymore…ups this last phrase sounds a bit psychological, I am sure that the Portuguese manager would love it. ![]()
Football transfer market kings
I am also curious to see how Manchester United and Liverpool will cope with the pressure moving on their shoulders as they will win the title of the summers biggest transfer market spenders. But first let us wait and see who will spend more and how wise the Premiership clubs will empty their accounts.
Until now Chelsea signed three out of contract players and did not spend a dime on reinforcements. They signed Ben Haim, Steve Sidewell and Claudio Pizarro. Manchester and Liverpool are awaited to invest more as their Stamford Bridge rivals.
