Brazil 1-0 Ecuador video highlights (56′ Robinho penalty kick.)
The Copa America Group B has also set the final standings last night with Mexico winning the group and Brazil finishing second. The last Match-day showed a 0-0 tie between Mexico and Chile, while Brazil just edged out Ecuador after a penalty kick goal scored by Robinho.
Brazil haven’t shined to much in their last group B match either. Robinho was again to the rescue and obtained a penalty kick that he transformed bringing Brazil’s 1-0 victory. Ecuador produced also some good chances and even claimed a penalty that could bring the equalizer. The referee didn’t award the eleven meter shot although in my opinion he could have done it.
Group B final standings
1. Mexico 7 points (goal difference +3 -> 4/1)
2. Brazil 6p (goal difference +2 -> 4/2)
3. Chile 3p (goal difference -2 -> 3/5)
4. Ecuador 1p (goal difference -3 -> 3/6)
Mexico 0-0 Chile match highlights
Mexico started the game against Chile with a few modifications in the squad, resting some key players for the next phase of the tournament. It was a pleasant game as you can see it in the highlights with a couple of good scoring chances on both sides. Chile showed some nice football and claimed a penalty in the second half but the referee stunned many including me by not awarding at least a free kick from the edge of the penalty box. The second half brought Mexico also close to the leading goal but a nice cross wasn’t converted. Game ends 0-0 and both teams qualify for the next round.
Chile qualifies from the third spot of the group B because of the Copa America tournament rules that state that also the two best third placed team advance to the next round together with the first two ranked team of the groups.
This way after tonight’s last group matches we will have 6 + 2 teams left in the competition battling for the semifinals.
