Chelsea 4 - 4 Aston Villa - Highlights
Dramatic encounter at the Stamford Bridge. Eight goals where registered in the meeting between the home side, Chelsea, and Aston Villa. Numerous turnarounds made this game special. Red cards, controversial referee decisions, great goals where the ingredients of a highly spectacular encounter.
Aston Villa where the better side at the start of the game. They dominated the first quarter of an hour and Maloney opened the score after a John Carew assist. The end of the first half saw Aston Villa in charge again and Shawn Maloney tried his luck from the long range. It was his lucky day indeed, because Peter Cech made an error and you can’t see this to often at Chelsea’s goalkeeper.
The halftime score was 1 - 2 though, with Shevchenko scoring from the penalty spot. Knight from Aston Villa was sent-off for comiting the penalty foul. The same Shevchenko equalized for The Blues in the 50th minute, with a superb long range shot, just below the crossbar.
The Ukrainian striker sent the assist for Chelsea’s 3 - 2 goal signed by Alex. But Laursen found the equalizer for Aston Villa after a nice free kick cross. He also benefited from Chelsea’s sleepy defence.
The balance on the pitch was also equalized as Ricardo Carvalho was sent off in the 80th minute for a stupid foul. Michael Ballack had a free kick in the 88th minute and he scored. The German midfielder curled the ball around the wall nicely.
The events did not stop here. Ashley Cole saved an Aston Villa header from the goal-line with his shoulder in my opinion, or with his hand in the referee’s opinion. Chelsea’s defender was sent-off and the visitors had a penalty kick.
