| Cristiano Ronaldo vs Bugatti Veyron |
A new Nike advetisement rocks this days. Cristiano Ronaldo is presenting the Nike Mercurial Vapor shoes in a race against the lightning fast Bugatti Veyron. I find this ad a great one. Manchester United’s superstar is competing in a drag race against a car that can reach 100 km/h within 3,7 seconds. Both competitors start at the same time they race for about 100 meters I say and after that stop and turn back. The first one who reaches the start-finish line is declared the winner.
From the start I tell you that this is an advertisement, a Nike advertisement so the race is 99% “aranged” :p. But I wanted to ask your opinion about the commercial and of course, if you think that Cristiano Ronaldo could have won the race under normal conditions?
To increase Ronaldo’s chances let’s consider a shorter distance, for example a 50 meter drag. Let’s say that Ronaldo’s top speed is about 35 km/h. It’s true that Ronaldo should reach it’s maximum speed way faster as the Bugatti Veyron.
So let’s say that he reaches 35km/h within 2 seconds and until reaching that maximum speed he has an average speed of 18km/h. This average should be considered for his accelaration from 0 to 35 km/h within 2 seconds.
To summarize this, I assume that Cristiano Ronaldo runs with an average of 18 km/h for two seconds and the rest until he completes the first 50 meters. Now we need to calculate the probable time that Ronaldo should get for it’s 50 meters sprint. After some maths and some serious corrections in favor of the Portuguese player I don’t think that Ronaldo can run those 50 meters faster as 5,5 seconds (even this seems to fast).
No I should try to find out how much would that Bugatti Veyron travel in 5,5 seconds. The catch is that we also have to keep in mind that Cristiano Ronaldo brakes faster as a the car. I searched and Bugatti gives only braking times from 400km/h to a stand still within 10 seconds.
I consider that the Veyron will go full throttle for 3 seconds and after that brake in order to be able to turn back. This means that the car will come close to 100 km/h and after that brake until still-stand. I did again the maths and after another few small pro-Ronaldo corrections I got this result: it’s not impossible to beat the Veyron in a 50 meters drag race. I also considered, that the second line, as you can also see in the commercial the Bugatti races with his back. We all know, that cars don’t have the same acceleration with the reverse gear.
So, yes it’s possible for Cristiano Ronaldo to beat the Bugatti Veyron in a 50meters 2 legs drag race, with the car racing the second leg in reverse mode. Time for the video now, HAVE FUN!
