Nigeria 2 - 0 Benin Highlights
1 - 0 J.O. Mikel scores Nigeria’s first goal of the competition in the 52nd minute of the third group stage game after a rebound.

Nigeria is the surprise team that advances to the quarter-finals of the African Cup of Nations 2008 from the second place of the group B. I say this after The Super Eagles’ performance in the first 2 match-days of the competition. The Nigerians didn’t manage to score in 180 minutes and counted a single point after their 0 - 0 draw against Mali.
Mikel scored the first goal of the competition for Nigeria in the 52nd minute of their encounter with Benin and granted a “surprise” qualification to the Super Eagles. This late goal was also a lucky one, it came after a rebound from a free kick shot and an error of Benin’s goalkeeper. The second goal came late in the 86th minute and was scored by Yakubu.
Nigeria will play group A winners and host nation Ghana in the quarter-finals of the CAN 2008.
