The other half of the quarter-finals counting for the African Cup of Nations are scheduled to be played today. Egypt vs Angola will start the day at 18:00 CET. This quarter final will give the semi-finalist for the semi-final B. Basically the winner of this game will play the Ivory Coast in the next round.

Now let’s explore the 2 sides involved in this third quarter-final played at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi. Egypt are the winners of the group C. Hassan Shehata’s players have defeated comfortably Cameroon in their first game of the competition and assured their reign in the group C. Seven points where enough to grant them the top spot, ahead of the Indomitable Lions.
Angola have obtained the second place in the Group D and are also undefeated at this 2008 ACN. They where pushed to the second spot, although they counted the same number of points (5) with the leaders Tunisia and had also the same goal-difference (+2). Tunisia where considered better while they scored more goals compared to Angola. This is a good rule, because it encourages team’s to attack more in order to score and rises the level of spectacle during a football game.
Let’s talk about betting now. Egypt are considered the favorites for this match. Let’s remember that they are the defending champions after winning the African Cup of Nations in 2006. So I would place my money on Egypt after seeing all the group stage games and comparing the performance of both sides.

Egypt defeats Angola as expected and qualifies for the semi-finals where they will face the Ivory Coast. The game was decided in the first half, when all the goals where scored. Egypt won 2 - 1 with Abdel and Zaky scoring for them. Manucho was the goalscorer for Angola.
Abdel opened the score in the 23rd minute from a penalty kick. Angola replied fast and Manucho sent a superb long range shot below the crossbar, 3 minutes later. It’s a superb goal, Egypt’s goalkeeper had no chance.
Zaky managed a lucky execution after a cross and a little defensive blunder in Angola’s defence. The second half brought no chance to the scoreboard.
