Superb game at the Jose Alvalade. Sporting defeated Benfica with an incredible 5-3. The match counts for the Portuguese Cup and it’s the first leg from a double leg battle. The match was superb because of the numerous scoreboard turnarounds.
Rui Costa opened the score for Benfica in the 20th minute and silenced the crowd at the Alvalade. Nunuo Gomes headed for 2-0 around 10 minutes later and Benfica seemed favorite to advance to the final.

The second half brought three goals in a row for Sporting. Djalo, Liedson and Derlei scored for an incredible home side comeback. But Benfica replied also and by the 82nd minute the scoreboard was showing a 3-3 draw. Another series of two goals in a row sealed the win for Sporting though with Pupo and Vukcevic scoring. The last goal was scored after a questionable counter-attack as Sepsi from Benfica was fouled when the counter-attack started. You can watch everything mentioned above and much more in the Youtube video embedded above.
