Rangers win the UEFA Cup

It’s late in the night and there are less than 24 hours left until the kick-off of the 2007-2008 UEFA Cup Final. I propose you a small imagination exercise. Let’s imagine what the out come would be if one of the two clubs win the final. This article assumes that Rangers win the final and the next one will consider Zenit St Petersburg as today’s UEFA Cup winners.

First of all it would be interesting for sure if we think about the newspaper headlines. Here are some interesting titles that I thought about. If you want to add one, just place a comment at the end of this post and I will update it here for you.

‘Rangers and it’s 10 defenders obtain a historic UEFA Cup trophy’
‘Neil Alexander frustrates Zenit and wins the Cup for the Scots ‘
‘Rangers obtain Manchester glory’
‘SuperNovo hero in Manchester’
‘Walter Smith, Sir Walter Smith’
‘Manchester empty on whiskey and beer’
‘In Manchester Whiskey is stronger than Vodka’

I see Glasgow Rangers winning tonight with the same defensive tactics that they usually used in this season’s UEFA Cup matches. Walter Smith’s side has a busy end of the season and the very high number of matches played have put their tool on the performance of the team. Walter Smith is aware of this and tries to compensate this deficit buy teaching it’s players to play an economical football game. Rangers tend to defend themselves and try to score on the counter-attack or from some set piece cross.

Knowing this I imagine Rangers, either winning after penalties with a 0-0 result in the regular time, or obtaining the UEFA Cup with a short 1-0 win during the first 90 minutes. The goal could come during a corner kick or a free kick cross.

Reports state that tonight, a day before the game 30,000 Rangers fans are a few miles away from Manchester, expecting the today’s final. It’s predicted that around 100,000 Scottish fans will travel to Manchester for this UEFA Cup final. That could break the UEFA record for the most away fans that supported their team. The actual record is of 80,000 supporters.

Manchester’s pub, restaurant and club owners will be the happiest ones, I guess, if the team from Glasgow win the trophy. I guarantee that they will run out of whiskey and beer with 100,000 happy and ready for party Rangers fans visiting their business.
