| Chelsea’s path to the Final |
Chelsea complete an English affair at the Luzhniki Stadium. For the first time in the Champions League history, two teams from England meet in an UCL Final. The Blues will look to revenge themselves on Man Utd after they failed to grab the Premier League title from the arms of the Red Devils. This won’t be easy as Avram Grant’s side is considered the outsider of the Final. Let’s check their road to the final!
Group B was assigned for Chelsea. The Blues won it after three wins against Valencia, Schalke and Rosenborg and three draws against the same teams.
The round of the last 16 saw Chelsea eliminating Olympiakos with an aggregate score of 3-0. The first leg ended with a goalless draw while, The Blues won 3-0 at home. The goals where scored by Ballack, Lampard and Kalou.
Olympiakos 0 - 0 Chelsea
Chelsea 3 - 0 Olympiakos Piraeus
The Quarter-Finals where unexpected and difficult for Avram Grant’s boys. Chelsea just managed to force Fenerbahce out of the competition. This wasn’t achieved before they registered their first defeat of this Champions League season. The Turkish side managed a 2-1 home win, but Chelsea managed to turn the aggregate score at the Stamford Bridge. The Blues won 2-0, with Ballack and Lampard scoring.
Fenerbahce 2 - 1 Chelsea
Chelsea 2 - 0 Fenerbahce
The semi-finals offered another traditional encounter between Liverpool and Chelsea. The Reds managed to eliminate Chelsea two times in the previous seasons from the same stage of the competition. It seemed that they will manage it for a fourth time but Riise’s own goal, changed the outcome of this double leg battle. A 1-1 draw at the Anfield offered Chelsea the moral to start the second leg with confidence. Still, The Blues managed the qualification only after a 3-2 win after the extra-time.
Liverpool 1 - 1 Chelsea
Chelsea 3 - 2 Liverpool
