Urawa Red Diamonds 2 - 4 Bayern München Highlights

Lukas Podoslki has scored a hat-trick for Bayern Munich in the pre-season friendly game against the Urawa Red Diamonds. The match ended 4-2 for the German Bundesliga title holders.

Miroslav Klose opened the score in the 16th minute. Two Podolski goals lifted the scoreboard at 3-0 for the halftime break. Tsukasa Umesaki pulled one for the home side from the rebound, just before Podoslki completed his hat-trick. Read more

Leyton Orient 1 - 5 Tottenham Hotspur Highlights

Tottenham Hotspur continued their friendly games series. Juande Ramos’ side played yesterday against the Ligue One side, Leyton Orient. The Spurs won the match with 5-1.

Leyton Orient opened the score surprisingly in the 4th minuter as Demetriou scored a superb goal with a curled shot that landed at the top right corner. The home side went with this lead for the halftime break. Read more

Arsenal win at the Mercedes-Benz Arena with 3-1 against the home side during VFB Stuttgart’s presentation match. Although Stuttgart managed to open the score in the 51st minute, The Gunners turned the scoreboard around and scored three times within 15 minutes. Read more

Fiorentina 1 - 3 Barcelona Highlights

Barcelona defeat Fiorentina at the Stadio Artemio Franchi. The Catalans won yesterday with 3-1 in a pre-season friendly game. Barca’s goals where scored by Charles Puyol, Jeffren Suarez and Bojan Krkic.

Gianpaolo Pazzini scored the consolation goal for Fiorentina in the 69th minute of the match. Pep Guardiola’s side dominated the entire match even when the substitutes where sent on the pitch. Read more

New Referees Rules

In an effort to rid football referees of the fear of intimidation at all levels in the sport the Football Association are set to introduce a new rule at the beginning of next season which will only allow team captains to approach the referee over a disputed decision.

The Premiership begins on August sixteenth and it is expected that, apart from a few minor tweaks, the rule will be in force then. The new rule, however, will apply to all levels in the game from the very highest competitions to school matches.
Don’t think its necessary? Try attending school boy games where there are often as many disputed decisions as in the top flight.

The rule, the FA hopes, will mean an end to groups of yelling, screaming players haranguing refs for decisions that they don’t agree with.

Currently there are over 40000 registered football teams in the UK but only 30000 qualified referees. This amounts to a shortage but no matter what moves the FA takes to try to reduce the shortage they fail, mainly due to the fact that for all the new referees that are trained annually at least as many give up every year.
