EURO 2008 and 700 million Euros
UEFA has recently announced that their earnings during the EURO 2008 summed up an impressive sum of 1.3 billion Euros (1.300.000.000 Euros). The biggest chunk of this amount came from TV rights. This TV rights revenues covered 60% of the total income.
Another important revenue source are the marketing rights, which summed up 21% of the impressive 1.3 milliard figure.
The organization lead by Michelle Platini also announced its expenses for the European Championship organized by Austria and Switzerland. The approximative amount is 610.000.000 Euros.
A simple math operation shows that UEFA has collected a solid profit of around 700.000.000 Euros after organizing the EURO 2008. Isn’t that impressive?
The European Championship co-hosted by Austria and Switzerland broke another record. The prize money was substantially increased. The winners, Spain, where awarded 19.000.000 Euros for winning the tournament.
